3things is an initiative of Oxfam Australia, and since 2008 we’ve been challenging the popular perception that young Australians are “all about me” and chained to our iPhones and Facebook. While we may be all of these things at times, many of us also care about others, and the world around us. Sometimes we just don’t know where to start when it comes to tackling the big global issues like poverty, climate change, and ensuring people can live out their basic human rights.
3things bridges that gap, providing relevant opportunities and support for people to get involved in ways that are meaningful to them – whether you’ve got 3 minutes, 3 weeks or more. We start by posing a simple question: what are 3things that you can do to help change the world?... and we’ve already had thousands of people share their 3things, building a movement for global goodness.
Check out our website to find out what others are doing and to add your 3things to the mix. While your actions alone may seem small or insignificant, together our collective actions have a massive flow on effect and can impact the wellbeing of our poorest and most marginalised neighbours, as well as the environment.
While you’re there, take a look at our upcoming events and workshops, comps and creative call outs. There are some beautiful communication pieces that have come from emerging design and communications students who are using their profession to change the world as part of our Design4Change program. There’s also a section dedicated to high schools showcasing the amazing things that they’re doing around Australia in support of global social justice issues.
All up, 3things is demonstrating that if we all take steps to ethically, sustainably and generously we can change the world one decision at a time. We’re also the first generation that’s connected enough to make the fundamental shift that’s needed to bring about a more equitable and sustainable world, so why not start by adding your 3things and spreading the word.
