Last year I (the smart one in the second row) attended the Fairly Educated Conference in Sydney and it influenced a bunch of students from Newcastle to get the majority of the coffee outlets on campus selling Fairtrade.

So now we are all inspired and have the know how on making our Uni’s Fairtrade. But the journey didn’t end when I stepped onto the plane home. During the conference the co-founders of Fairly Educated had a surprise and some exciting news for us. They shared with us their aim to make all Australian Universities Fairtrade Accredited by 2015!
Fairtrade Uni History
The first Fairtrade University was Oxford Brooks University. We then had two Australian Universities become Fairtrade in 2009, both RMIT University and Macquarie University. Since then, La Trobe University, Monash University, University of Melbourne and University of Adelaide also made the switch. And finally, as recently as several weeks ago, Deakin University became Fairtrade. Of course this is great but it is important to keep our Universities accountable by having regular awareness raising events and meetings. You can browse through the Fairly Educated resources to see how you can get your University Fairtrade or how to keep your University outlets on their toes.
How to get every Aussie Uni Fairtrade by 2015
S
o here’s the plan, we can support this action by liking, sharing and signing the petition. By doing this you will be contributing to the first step towards providing Fairtrade, coffee, tea, merchandise, events and of course chocolate to all our Universities. The petition has just cracked 1000 signatures so make signing this petition one of your 3things so we can reach the 2000 signatures and beyond!
