Greetings, internets!

Here’s another 3things blogger profile, this time featuring our new friend Nish. Nish has been helping us out over the summer, so we thought we’d take some time to get to know him a bit better, see what makes him tick and find out what he’s learnt from his time at 3things. Without further ado, here’s Nish…

3things: First off Nish, you’ve interned for a whole bunch of NGO’s over the years before joining us here at 3things. So we were wondering, pirates or ninjas? Why?

Nish: Most definitely pirates. While I previously lived as a believer in the stealth, dexterity and combat ability of the ninja, I was swooned by piracy after experiencing a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon back in ‘08. Also, I once heard this Michael Bolton song.

3things: False. The correct answer is ninjas, because of their unique ability to harness the power of the shuriken, or ‘throwing ninja star’.

Nish: Pretty sure you could teach a pirate how to use a throwing ninja star.

3things: False again! For then he would cease to be a pirate and transform into a ninja.

Nish: Do you have any other questions?

3things: Yes, yes we do! Perhaps you’ll get these easy ones right. What 3 musos/bands are you into right now?

Nish: I’m loving Mutemath, Mr. Matt Corby and Chicago-hip-hop-demi-god, Common.

3things: What are your 3 favourite movies of all time?

Nish: Oooh… you said these would be easy! [Ten minutes later…] I’d have to say Garden State, Into The Wild and, of course, Anchorman.

3things: What 3 words best describe you?

Nish: Thinker, Writer, Singer.

3things: Now Nish, let’s dive deeper. What inspires you?

Nish:  Serious is good! I’m inspired by the hope that good ideas and elbow grease are all we need to change the world. People are brilliant, when you take a good look at them. The power of the internet is pretty inspiring. Also, TED Talks. And Nelson Mandela. I think a TED Talk by Nelson Mandela would blow my mind.

3things: What are you passionate about, and why?

Nish: I’m crazy about music.  You pluck a couple strings, sing a couple notes and, voila. You’ve changed the atmosphere. Maybe inspired a movement. Maybe saved someone’s life. Maybe made it harder for someone to concentrate. Whatever. Music makes a difference. I don’t understand how it all works, the way that melodies and beats and chords can affect the homo sapien soul, but it’s freaking awesome.

3things: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve taken away from your time at 3things so far?

Nish: Probably that we live in a time where you don’t have to become ‘Super Activist’ to make a tangible difference. In fact, all you need to do is look at what’s in your hands (literally and figuratively) and then find some creative way to use it for the cause tugging at your heart strings. Like protecting the environment by changing your coffee habits. Or feeding the hungry by playing videogames. It’s brilliant.

3things: Finally, what 3things are you doing to change the world?

Nish: Recycling clothes, walking more & e-signing every single petition on the Oxfam
