National Volunteering Video Competition


Love volunteering? Budding film maker? Have we got a comp for you!

The Australian Government is running an online video competition from 19 April – 5pm July 22nd 2012, asking young individuals and groups to create a short video promoting the benefits of volunteering to their friends, peers and the broader Australian community.

The theme is ‘Your Passion. Our Nation. Volunteer. Now!’

Entrants submit a 30-60 second audiovisual advertisement and are broken into two age groups:
  • Category A – Aged 15- under 18 years

  • Category B- Aged 18- under 25 years


  • Judging will be based on:
  • Content - each Entry should communicate and reflect the theme of the Competition "Your Passion, Our Nation. Volunteer Now!"

  • Idea and Originality

  • Video production quality including editing, sound and lighting


  • Prizes
    There are some awesome prizes including for the overall winner -
  • Canon 5D Mark II video kit - Camera, Canon 24-105mm f4L lens, Rode Video Mic Pro, Dead Cat

  • Manfrotto 701 HDV tripod system kit


  • Volunteering can take so many forms, from helping out at a homeless shelter to volunteering here at 3things! Some benefits of volunteering include:

    • Helping support your community and others

    • Gaining different skills and experience

    • Meeting new people and building friendships

    • Having fun outside of school, university, TAFE and work


    Did you know that the Australian Government’s National Volunteering Strategy has identified that today youth volunteering is below the national average? To better support and encourage young people to get involved, the competition aims to motivate and help young filmmakers gain skills and experience.
