Your Date With History

Do you often get fired up about world sustainability and think world leaders could really use a good talking to? Do you feel like your vision for a perfect future could really work but no one's listening? Do you picture yourself going to a global conference and speaking your mind? Fancy a trip to Brazil, all expenses paid? Then this competition is for you! What would you say if you had two minutes to call on global leaders to take action? Date with History and its sponsors are calling on people aged 13-30 to voice their opinion on what they want the leaders to address in the Rio + 20 Earth Summit.

What is Rio + 20?

The Rio (Earth) summit is going into its 20th year of negotiations. So basically, a while ago a whole bunch of important people decided that environmentally sustainable development, community participation and economic and social justice are important enough to create international treaties for. This year’s conference is really focussed on the future of the state of the world.

And the prize is….

Should your answer be impressive enough, your inspiring video will not only be seen by important people but you will personally deliver your speech at the summit this year.

Pretty cool huh? I bet that would shine on your CV. So get on board by going onto the competition page and submitting your video, the website has a get started link on how to enter and lots of other resources for general information.

Since the theme for Rio is all about futures and you’re invited to outline the future you want in the video, think about how you want the environment to look like in 5 years...and I am not talking about being able to jump into flying cars.

I would like to see a future with no extinct animals. Or more so (being a food nut and all), I would like to see a future with lots of different flavours, cultures, species and so on…I think we call that biodiversity. What sort of future would you like?
