The Mending Project
What is it about art in galleries that makes you want to touch it- is it because there are massive signs saying: 'Do not touch' or is it our innate curiosity that makes us want to see whether something feels how it looks? Well listen up art feelers- as part of the 18th Biennale of Sydney: All Our Relations, the MCA is hosting a a sweet, interactive initiative called 'The Mending Project' that allows you to get up close and personal with both the artwork and artist. As part of Lee Mingwei's installation, the MCA is encouraging people to bring along a garment or object that requires mending and the artist or artist assistant will help you mend it! Nice huh?Not only will you leave with a revived loved item (helping your wallet and the environment), you'll also literally be able to say you're wearing a piece of art.
FREE daily workshops are being held through the Biennale, but you're advised to get in quick before the thread runs out.
